CETRI Services

Post-Acute Medical Evaluation and Research

CETRI’s fundamental goal is to assist survivors of electrical shock or electrocution who experience complex, hard-to-treat complications during their recovery. The institute provides subspecialty evaluations and targeted treatment recommendations to both patients and their referring physicians. Central to CETRI’s approach is a close, collaborative partnership between the patient, their care team, and CETRI’s multidisciplinary specialists.

CLINICAL PROGRAM

Medical complications following electrical shock or electrocution can affect any organ system, or multiple systems simultaneously. No two patients present with the same clinical profile. CETRI’s clinical program integrates a broadly interdisciplinary team that conducts comprehensive evaluations and collaborates to develop a unified report summarizing findings and recommendations. This report is provided to both the patient and their primary medical advisor to guide ongoing care.

Evaluations

Most patients present with multi-system medical complaints. Every effort is made to coordinate evaluations efficiently and minimize the patient’s time commitment, particularly for those traveling long distances to Chicago. Examinations are conducted across several medical centers where CETRI faculty maintain clinical operations, and occasionally in Urbana-Champaign for high-precision functional imaging.

Each evaluation typically spans several days of intensive testing. Afterward, our team compiles the diagnostic data and collaborates with CETRI faculty to produce a comprehensive, integrated report. To ensure accuracy and consistency, the preparation of this report generally requires 8–12 weeks. With patient consent, CETRI provides the final report to the referring or primary physician to support ongoing care. Optimal outcomes are achieved when CETRI is able to work closely with the patient’s primary care and rehabilitation providers.

CONTINUITY OF CARE

The best outcomes are achieved through continuity of care. For local patients, follow-up appointments are scheduled on a regular basis. For those traveling from greater distances, collaboration with local or regional healthcare providers is essential. The CETRI team maintains ongoing communication with both patients and their care teams to monitor progress and arrange additional visits to CETRI when needed.
